Prior to being accepted, the Shaver family was living in an apartment with little space for their family and unsanitary conditions. There was mold present in each of the rooms as well as smoke coming in from downstairs neighbor. The family feared how this would affect their infant daughter’s health. In addition, police were often called to the building for disturbances. With two small children, they were worried about the safety of their family if they continued to stay there.
This is what led the Shaver Family to apply for Habitat’s Homeownership Program. The family desires to have a safe environment for their children to grow up in.
Construction on this home began April 2016 and was dedicated August 16, 2016.
“We want to build equity, have something to call our own, and a yard for our children to play, grow and enjoy life.”
