Meet the Man Behind the Camera

At Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity, our volunteers are the heartbeat of our mission. Among these incredible individuals is Ed Smith, a long-time supporter whose dedication has left an indelible mark on our organization. Recently, Ed celebrated an extraordinary milestone: surpassing
2,000 volunteer hours!
This remarkable achievement speaks volumes about his passion for giving back and his commitment to helping us build homes, communities, and hope.

A Decade of Service and Passion
For over a decade, Ed has been a steadfast presence at our build sites. Each week, you’ll find him with his camera in hand, meticulously documenting every step of our Habitat home builds. From the first nail driven to the moment a the homebuyer celebrates purchasing an affordable house and takes the  keys in-hand, Ed captures the heart and soul of our work through his lens. His photos don’t just tell a story—they celebrate the progress, perseverance, and people behind every project.

But Ed’s contributions go far beyond photography. With his craftsmanship skills, he’s also been hands-on in construction, helping transform dreams of homeownership into reality. Whether he’s swinging a hammer or lending a hand to our crew, Ed’s dedication exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism.

Championing Our Mission
Ed is more than a volunteer; he’s an advocate for the mission of Habitat for Humanity. He speaks passionately about the importance of providing affordable housing and the transformative impact it has on families and neighborhoods. Ed’s commitment is contagious, inspiring others to get involved and make a difference.

Youth Making a Difference: The Story of Two Brudders Cakery and Their Summer of Impact

10/25/2024

When most kids think of summer vacation, they imagine time spent swimming, playing video games, or relaxing. But two young boys in Green Bay had a different idea. With a passion for baking and an even bigger passion for giving back, they decided to turn their summer break into an opportunity to make a difference in their community.
Under the name Two Brudders Cakery, these boys set up a stand, selling cupcakes with a mission to support local nonprofits. As each batch of cupcakes sold, they grew more excited about their goal of helping others. But, like many of us, they wondered: "Did we make enough of an impact?"
Picture
Their question was answered in a special way when Jessica Diederich, CEO of Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity, took them on a trip to the local hardware store. There, the boys saw firsthand how their donation translated into tangible tools and materials for the Habitat build, including 3" framing nails, carpenter pencils, and tape measures. Their eyes lit up with joy as they realized that their summer efforts helped build a home for a family in need.

Welcome Home, New ReStore Truck!

10/24/2024

Picture
At Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore, we’re thrilled to welcome a brand new addition to our ReStore family – our new truck! This isn’t just any truck; it’s a testament to the power of community and generosity.

A New Resource, Full of Possibilities
The need for a new ReStore truck has been a long time coming. As ReStore donations have consistently grown, our beloved but aging truck worked tirelessly to bring them to our retail operation. But we knew that to continue fueling our mission efficiently, it was time to upgrade. The new truck is equipped with enhanced space, safety features, and loading capabilities, allowing us to go farther, work smarter, and all of the efforts are to serve more people and families in our community building affordable homes.

With this truck, we’ll be able to keep even more items out of landfills, give materials a second chance at life, and generate crucial revenue that directly supports our affordable homeownership program. As a result, it’s not only a vehicle; it’s a bridge to hope, offering resources that empower Habitat homebuyers to achieve stability and independence through decent, affordable homeownership.

Greater Green Bay Habitat ReStore’s New Partnership with ReSupply: Easier Donations for All

10/1/2024

At Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity, we’re always looking for ways to make a positive impact in our community—this includes making the donation process as convenient as possible for you! To meet that goal, we’ve recently partnered with ReSupply, a veteran-owned logistics company, to provide an easy, fast, and flexible pickup option for donations. Here’s how it works and how you can donate, all from the comfort of your home.

Two Easy Options for Donating

We know life can be busy, so we now offer two ways to have your donations picked up:
Our Standard ReStore Pickup Service (Free)
If you’re planning ahead, our free ReStore pickup service is a great option. Scheduled 1-3 weeks in advance (based on location and availability), this service is perfect for items that meet our donation guidelines and are ready for pickup in a garage, covered parking, or outside.

Details of the Standard Service:
  • Free pickup service
  • Scheduled 1-3 weeks in advance
  • Ideal for items stored in easy-to-access areas
  • Requires that items meet donation guidelines (view full list on our website)
  • Cannot disassemble items or enter living space,  items must be available in the garage or outside for pickup
Expedited Pickup with ReSupply (Small Fee)

For those who need a faster or more flexible option, our partnership with ReSupply offers pickups in as little as two business days for a small service fee. ReSupply can collect items from any area of your home, including upstairs or downstairs, and can even disassemble items if needed.

Details of ReSupply Service:
  • Pickup available within two business days
