Green Bay Habitat Blog

Faces of Habitat: Meet Kaylee

1/13/2026

Faces of Habitat is our ongoing blog series where we shine a light on the amazing people who make Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity what it is. This month, we're featuring Kaylee, our Rock the Block Program Manager.

Kaylee has been working for Habitat for Humanity just over one year. She hit the ground running as soon as she was hired, organizing our second Rock the Block revitalization event in Green Bay's Fisk Addition Neighborhood last September. It takes a full year to plan all of the moving pieces for this event, and she did a fantastic job her first year.

She is well into the planning for 2026's Rock the Block event, which will take place in De Pere. Stay tuned to our social media channels and our email newsletter for more information on this (coming very soon) and in the meantime, get to know a little bit more about Kaylee!

How do Habitat ReStores support Habitat for Humanity?

1/13/2026

With nearly 900 stores in 49 states, chances are you’ve come across a Habitat ReStore, most likely the one right here in Green Bay on Allouez Avenue. But did you know that Habitat for Humanity ReStores are more than just resale stores? They actually support Habitat for Humanity’s mission in several very important ways.

How ReStores support Habitat

The proceeds from purchases made at Habitat ReStores go to the Habitat for Humanity programs supported by the local office. Then, the funds are put to work in the local community. In Green Bay, the revenue generated from sales funds not only the office operations, but all any remaining dollars support the Homeownership Program. Being able to cover operating expenses means that all philanthropy and fundraising we do go directly towards home builds rather than salaries or administrative expenses.

Put simply, when you support your local Habitat ReStore, you are helping individuals and families in your community secure safe, affordable housing.

Faces of Habitat: Meet Carl

12/19/2025

Last month, we kicked off a new feature called Faces of Habitat. This is where we shine a light on the amazing people who make Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity what it is. This month, we're featuring Carl, our ReStore Director.

Carl has been working for Habitat for Humanity since May of 2009 when the ReStore officially opened here in Green Bay (fun fact: it was originally located on
Ramada Way, just off of Oneida Street in Ashwaubenon).

Put simply, Carl knows everything there is to know about this place. He's the one who usually answers the phone if you call, he knows every item out on the sales floor, he knows most repeat customers by name, and he runs the 9:45am daily meetings for our staff and volunteers.

We asked him a few questions about what inspires him everyday:

What is your favorite part about working with Habitat? In other words, what is your why?

The Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity ReStore helps the community in so many ways. We help keep perfectly good items out of the landfill, and we help people save money while improving their home. We then are able to provide funding to help GGBHFH provide simple decent affordable housing to deserving families. My job is a win all the way around!

The impact of decent, affordable housing

12/19/2025

Decent, affordable shelter provides families with a place to gather and grow. Even more, by working with Habitat to achieve affordable homeownership, families can transform their lives.

Affordable homeownership helps create the conditions that free families from stress and fear, helping build stability and confidence. Studies show that strong and stable households are foundational to child development and growth. Owning an affordable home also allows homeowners to lift up their entire family by saving for their futures and investing in educational opportunities, bolstering job opportunities and long-term career growth.

Our Impact, By the Number

Surveys of Greater Green Bay Habitat Homeowners and their families show better financial health, parents who are more confident about meeting their family’s needs, and even improved grades for their children since purchasing their home. Here is a glimpse of our 2025 Homeownership Survey results:

Faces of Habitat: Meet Valerie

11/21/2025

We’re excited to kick off a new feature called Faces of Habitat. This series is all about shining a light on the amazing people who make Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity what it is. Each month, you’ll get to know a different member of our team and see what inspires them both on and off the job!

This month, we chatted with Valerie, Habitat's Family Success Manager. She has been working for Habitat for Humanity since January of 2023 and she adds so much warmth and at times, silliness to the office. She is always the one suggesting we participate in TikTok trends and she's pulled off more pranks than the rest of the staff members combined.

What is your favorite part about working with Habitat? In other words, what is your why?

My favorite part is the team I work with and the families we meet along the way. I always knew I wanted to help people but I didn't know how I would do that. It has been so rewarding to see families achieve their dreams of buying a home.
