Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity to Dedicate Rein Family Home August 23

8/13/2018

Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity will hold a home dedication for the Rein family on Thursday, August 23 at 5:30 p.m. at the home, located at 1260 Western Ave. Dedications are open to the public and include a short program featuring speakers, a key presentation, and a reflection from the new homeowners. After the program, guests are invited to enjoy refreshments and tour the home.

Maria Rein couldn’t be more excited to move into a brand-new, three-bedroom home in Green Bay. But she’s even more thrilled for her two kids, Raphael (15) and Deanna (11).

“It has always been my dream to own a home. I would love a place for my kids to play and something that will someday be theirs,” said Maria Rein, the future homeowner. “I want to put money towards something that I own, not towards rent.”

Maria and her children currently live in an unsafe, unsanitary, and overcrowded rental home. Because of this, Maria was motivated to do everything in her power to improve her family’s circumstances, which led to an expedited building process.

The Rein family was approved and accepted into the homebuyer program in January of this year. After being accepted, families must complete 50 sweat equity hours in order to secure their spot to choose a lot- Maria completed her hours by February and chose her lot in March.

The lot the family chose on Western Ave. meant their house would start in April and be finished in August. It also meant Maria had to complete her sweat equity (250 hours) and homeowner class in just 5 months- most families meet those requirements in 18 months!

This home was also the Women Build project of 2018. Women Build happens each year in May, and any woman who wants to learn how to build and construct a home is invited to join. No experience is necessary. Volunteers work in a collaborative atmosphere under the guidance of construction professionals and alongside other volunteers and future Habitat homeowners.  168 Women Build volunteers worked on the Rein family home!

This was the 110th home Habitat has built and sold to a qualified homeowner in the Greater Green Bay area. Homeowners have a zero-interest and affordable mortgage that is made possible through generous donations of money, materials, and volunteer labor.

A special thank you to the sponsors on this home including: Leonardo Da Vinci School for Gifted Learners, Schneider, Byron L Walter Family Trust, Larry & Debbie Frazier, Wochinske Family Foundation, The George Kress Foundation, Fosber, Frank & Theresa Joswick Family Fund, Greater Green Bay Community Foundation, Maurice A & June C Robinson Family Foundation, Tom Faughnan & Katie Flanagan.
