Position Summary:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will provide key leadership at Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity to ensure success in the following program areas: ReStore, Finance, Human Resources, and Marketing. The COO will work with all program departments to maximize their effectiveness, providing a key leadership role to enable the organization to optimize organizational excellence. The COO will be a strong manager and creative problem solver who is committed to and enthusiastic about the mission of Habitat for Humanity.

Key Responsibilities:
ReStore Operations
- Work with ReStore Manager to achieve annual sales and profitability targets by encouraging efficiency of operations. In addition, the COO and ReStore Manager will work together and identify new program development to support the ambitious sales goals in conjunction with the organization’s strategic plan and in line with the budget.
- ReStore management team and COO responsible for cultivating relationships and collaborating with other ReStores and profitable retailers throughout the country. Research and identifying best practices, trends, and market evaluations.
- Oversight of the Finance department including general ledger and financial statement preparation.
- Work with Finance Director to ensure a smooth annual audit process.
Human Resources
- With assistance from outside resources when needed, serve as the organization’s “expert” on HR issues such as staff policies, procedures, benefits, and insurance.
- Work closely with the HR/Compliance department to manage and improve employee relations and cultural needs of the organization.
Marketing & Communications
- Provide guidance and oversight for marketing, events, and communications. Support the marketing efforts for the ReStore, events, fundraising projects, Homeownership Program, and the overall mission along with budget development in these areas. In addition, the COO will ensure that the organization is represented professionally, accurately, and cohesively in all communications.
- Collaborate with the Marketing department and assess what communication tools and resources the organization should utilize to fulfill the mission and enhance our presence in the community.
General Responsibilities
- Responsibilities involve a variety of interrelated tasks. Procedures vary based upon management requirements. Strong communication (writing, editing, interpersonal, public speaking) and analytical/quantitative skills will be essential with the ability to manage multiple projects under deadlines.
- The COO will interact with Green Bay Habitat staff, board members, volunteers, homeowners, donors, vendors, area nonprofits, and other stakeholders to discover opportunities and create a proactive approach to operations.
- The CEO will provide general guidance from a management perspective by identifying large-scale goals and objectives to meet organizational needs; the COO will facilitate research, development and implementation of internal practices and procedures.
- Attend and facilitate meetings on a regular basis.
- Work with the CEO to continuously evolve and enhance our collaborative and supportive work culture while encouraging a healthy work-life balance.
- Other projects and duties as assigned by the CEO.
Reporting Requirements
- Fulfill Affiliate Compliance requirements put forth by Habitat for Humanity International.
- Conduct staff reviews with direct reports.
- Participate in strategic planning and implementation to reach organizational goals.
- Share staff and department updates, along with organizational performance with the CEO on a regular basis.
- Monthly ReStore sales and performance reporting to the Board of Directors.

Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or other relevant area of study.
- Minimum of four years in a supervisory role; retail, human resources or non-profit preferred.
- Experience overseeing a multi-department budget as well as a general understanding of financial statements and non-profit auditing process.

- People Oriented: Provide motivating leadership to the managers of Finance, Marketing, the ReStore and to various volunteer committees.

Work Environment
- Majority of time is spent in an office environment but may involve work at construction sites, the ReStore, and various other locations for events on occasion.
